Listerís Homer Helps Lady Tigers Top Milan 5-3 in Conference Softball Action
A move to the junior high field, wet and rainy conditions, not even minor electrical problems that delayed the start of the contestÖ Okay so itís not faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive and able to leap tall buildings in a single bound type stuff, but Kelly Lister did her best Superman impression in the first inning of the Lady Tigers 5-3 victory over Milan.
The senior catcher crushed her second home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning as SCR-I picked up its first Tri-Rivers Conference victory of the year on Tuesday, September 22nd in Memphis.
Heavy rain overnight forced the game to be moved to the junior high field. A problem with the lights delayed the start of the game momentarily following the completion of the junior high contest.
Those minor setbacks were washed away when Lister connected on a pitch and sent it sailing over the fence in left-center field to put her team on top 2-0. Megan Creek singled to start the game and moved to second on a sacrifice by Elizabeth Duzan before scoring on Listerís blast.
Loren Smith made it 3-0 when she reached on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cali Holt.
With two outs in the second, Creek singled and moved into scoring position on a base hit by Duzan. She scored on a Milan error to make it 4-0.
A pair of errors by Scotland County opened the door for Milan in the top of the fourth. The Wildcats took advantage of the extra outs, hitting back-to-back doubles to trim the deficit to 4-3.
The Wildcats were poised to tie the game in the fifth but rightfielder Monica Weidenbenner gunned down a runner at the plate to end the threat.
The Lady Tigers added to the cushion in the bottom of the fifth. Lister walked and Smith singled to start the inning. Courtney Jackson delivered an RBI hit but Milan worked out of a bases loaded jam.
Creek retired the side in order in the sixth and seventh innings to preserve the 5-3 win. She allowed four hits and one walk while striking out seven.
