Kelly Lister, Megan Creek Earn Softball Tri-Rivers All Conference Honors

It is safe to say the Tri-Rivers Conference will feature plenty of new faces in 2010. In its final season in the league, Brookfield knocked off perennial powerhouse Putnam County to claim the conference crown with a perfect 7-0 mark. Clark County will be joining the Bulldogs in the Clarence Cannon Conference next year. Add to that the fact that all but one of the leagueís top 10 players as recognized by the coaches, were seniors, and it is easy to see why the league will look a bit different next year.

The Tri-Rivers Conference announced its all conference awards last week. The first team all conference honors were dominated by seniors, including Scotland Countyís own Kelly Lister.

Lister hit a team-best .373 for Scotland County with seven doubles and two home-runs as well as a team-high 13 RBI. She walked 10 times while striking out in just seven of her 51 at bats.

Sarah Riley of Putnam County was named the most valuable player of the league. The senior was joined on the first squad by teammate Brandy Shultz. Schuyler County had two first team performers, including the lone underclassman on the first team, junior Kourtney Nelson. The Rams starting pitcher, Kaitlin Stump was the second leading vote getter in the league.

Rounding out the first team were Knox Countyís Brittney Miller, Clark Countyís Brooke Wheeler, Hilary Stuver and Adrienne Gall of Brookfield and Olivia Ahern of North Shelby.

The second team is where many of the future stars landed, led by Scotland Countyís Megan Creek. The freshman hurler narrowly missed a first team nod.

In addition to her work on the mound, Creek led Scotland County with 20 hits, batting at a .364 clip. She had three doubles and two triples and was tops on the Lady Tigers with 17 runs scored.

Brookfieldís Kelli Black and Knox Countyís Myra Parrish were the lone seniors on the second squad, which was dominated by younger players like Creek and fellow freshman Marissa Shuey of Putnam County. Brookfield teammates Abby York and Alyssa Elson, both sophomores rounded out the second team honorees along with Hannah Dale, a junior from Knox County, Jessica Lindberger, a junior from North Shelby, Giovanna Caponetto, a junior from Milan and Briana Alderton, a junior from Clark County.

The third team all conference consisted of Kelsey Ray, Sr., Putnam Co.; Kailee Shrerer, Jr., Brookfield; Hannah Trump, Fr., Clark Co.; Elizabeth Western, Jr., Schuyler Co.; Kelsie Frey, Jr., Brookfield; Mariah Jones, Sr., North Shelby; Bailey Couch, Fr., Knox Co.; Paige Drescher, Soph., Brookfield, Scotland Hurley, Fr., Putnam Co.; Katee Booth, Soph., Brookfield; and Kaytie Farley, Sr., Schuyler Co.

Brookfieldís Zac Miller was named the TRC coach of the year. The Bulldogs claimed the league title with a 7-0 season. Putnam Co. was second at 6-1 followed by Schuyler Co. (5-2) Knox Co. (4-3) Clark Co. (3-4), North Shelby (2-5), Scotland Co. (1-6) and Milan (0-7).
