Lady Tigers Softball Season Ends in District Opener
The 2009 softball season came to a close October 7th in the opening round of the Class 2 District 12 softball tournament in Lancaster. The Lady Tigersí bats were silent as Knox County eliminated SCR-I by a final margin of 10-0.
Knox County made a huge two-out rally in the bottom of the second inning. Hannah Dale delivered the key hit, an RBI single that started the four-run rally. A double by Myra Parrish made it 4-0.
That was all the runs starter Brittney Miller would need. She retired the first eight batters in order before Kiley Frazier reached on an infield single and advanced to third on a throwing error. But the sophomore was out trying to score on a passed ball to keep the shutout in tact.
The Lady Eagles added a run in the fourth without the benefit of a hit. Parrish walked and stole second base. She advanced on a passed ball and scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0.
A pair of fielding miscues in the sixth allowed the Eagles to make it 6-0 before ending the game by the 10-run rule with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Dale tripled in the winning runs with two outs.
SCR-I threatened in the fourth inning after walks to Megan Creek and Skyler Alderton put runners at first and second, but they could not push a run across.
Miller settled down and retired the side in order in the fifth and sixth innings to finish off the one-hitter.
Miller went six innings, walking two and striking out six to pick up the win and help advance the Lady Eagles to take on #2 seed Highland in the semifinals.
Creek allowed seven hits and walked a season high eight batters while striking out 12.
SCR-I closed out the year with a 7-13 mark.
