Junior High Softball Closes Out Season with 9-1 Record
The Scotland County junior high softball team closed out the 2009 season with a seven game winning streak courtesy of a 13-1 win over North Shelby on September 29th and a 6-3 victory over Putnam County on October 6th.
The Lady Tigers scored in each of the four innings against the Raiders. Randi Slaughter singled and scored in the first to make it 1-0. Sarah Sites singled and scored in the second. Emily Ebeling and Slaughter crossed the plate on a base hit by Bethany Rader to make it 4-0 in the second.
SCR-I batted around in the third frame to put the game away with seven runs before tacking on two more tallies in the top of the fourth.
North Shelby’s lone run came in the second inning, when the lead off batter reached base on a dropped third strike and came around to score after a couple stolen bases and an error. Rader fanned the last three batters of the frame giving her four strikeouts in the frame.
She finished with 12 strikeouts in four innings while giving up just one hit and walking none.
At Unionville, the Lady Tigers broke up a pitcher’s dual in the top of the third with a two-out rally. Slaughter doubled and came into score on a base hit by Ashley Curry. After a walk to Rader, Hailey Dial delivered an RBI single to make it 2-0.
The Midgets battled back with single runs in the fourth and fifth to knot the score at 2-2 and force extra innings.
Dial again came through in the top of the sixth with an RBI hit that brought home Curry with the go-ahead run. The Lady Tigers plated four runs in the rally.
Putnam County pushed across one in the bottom of the frame before Rader struck out the side to preserve the 6-3 win. She struck out 15 and did not allow a hit, walking none but hitting two batters.
Scotland County finished the year with a 9-1 record.
