Lady Tigers Improve to 2-0 With Extra-Inning Victory at Brashear

For the second time in as many nights the Scotland County softball squad saved its best for last, scoring the winning runs in the teams final at bat of a 6-4 victory at Brashear on August 25th.

The Lady Tigers looked poised to blow the game wide open in the top of the first inning. The two-out rally started with a walk to Kelly Lister. Loren Smith followed with a base hit. Skyler Alderton reached on an error, allowing Lister to score. Cali Holt was hit by a pitch to load the bases, but SCR-I was only able to push the lone run across to lead 1-0.

Scotland County made it 2-0 in the top of the third, but again left the bases loaded. Megan Creek started the inning with a walk and scored on a double by Lister to make it 2-0.

Brasher trimmed the deficit to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning and then tied it with another run in the fourth courtesy of a pair of SCR-I fielding miscues.

The Lady Tigers threatened in the fifth after a Creek single and walk to Lister, but couldnt push the go-ahead run across the plate.

Brashear finally broke the deadlock with a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Scotland County forced extra innings by scoring twice in the seventh. Elizabeth Duzan leadoff with a base hit. She scored on a double by Creek. Brashear retired the next two batters, threatening to end the 4-3 win. But Alderton delivered the clutch two-out RBI single to tie the game at 4-4.

The first two batters reached in Brashears bottom of the inning. Lister erased one trying to steal third. Creek retired the final eight bats in order, including four strikeouts in extra innings.

That allowed SCR-I the chance to put the game away in the top of the ninth.

Back-to-back walks to Lister and Smith set up the rally. Lister scored on a ground out by Alderton before Holt delivered another two-out RBI with a base hit.

Creek improved to 2-0 on the mound, allowing four runs, two earned, over nine innings. She gave up just four hits and two walks while striking out 10.

The freshman was 2-4 at the plate with a pair of runs scored. Lister was 1-2 with three walks and a pair of runs scored. Smith was 2-4 at the plate. Alderton was 1-5 with a pair of RBIs.
