Shelley Earns Third-Team All-Conference Honors
Graduation means the Tri-Rivers Conference will be bidding farewell to a huge part up its upper echelon of players according to the 2008-09 all-coference list recently released by the league coaches.
Eight of the top 11 players in the league as voted on by the coaches, were seniors, meaning next year’s list will be populated by plenty of new faces.
Putnam County’s Daniel Mallette, a 6’3” junior was the lone underclassman named to the all-conference first team.
After leading his team to a perfect 7-0 league record and a conference title, Clark County’s Michael Brennan was named the league MVP. Coach Clint Smith of Clark County was named coach of the year.
Joining Brennan and Mallette on the first team were seniors Dennis Den of Knox County, Jacob Winkler of Schuyler County and Logan Hill of Milan. All but Hill were unanimous first team selections.
Bryan Plenge of Clark County led off the second team honorees. He was joined by fellow seniors Ryan Falconer of Brookfield, Mitchell Penn of Knox County and Michael Stoneburner of North Shelby. Also named to the second team were junior Nolan Wood of Putnam County and sophomore Tim Gorman of Schuyler County.
Knox County and Schuyler County tied with Putnam County for second in the league with 5-2 conference marks. Milan and North Shelby both finished 2-5 in league play while Brookfield and Scotland County went 1-6 in league play.
The all-conference third team featured only one senior, Clark County’s Ethan Allen. Scotland County’s Kyle Shelley topped the squad. The junior forward averaged 10.6 points per contest and a team-best 8.3 rebounds for SCR-I. He also had a team-best 55% field goal percentage and was second on the squad in both blocked shots and steals.
Joining him on the third team were Blake Williams, a junior from Brookfield, Jesse Wheeler, a junior from Schuyler County, and Justin Reeves, a sophomore from Knox County.
