Ellison’s 24 Points Push Canton Past Tigers
There is no I in the word team, but on Tuesday night in Canton, SCR-I ran into a stellar individual performance that saw one player nearly single-handedly knock off the Tigers.
Canton’s Justin Ellison scored all of his game-high 24 points in the first half. The senior guard matched the SCR-I first period performance with 12 points as Canton built a 19-12 lead after the first eight minutes of play.
Kasey Dial, who was inserted into the starting lineup for the contest, responded with five points in the opening frame to keep the contest close.
The second period was the difference in the night, as Canton used a 26-8 run to blow the game open.
Ellison outdid the Tigers scoring output in the second period. He had 12 points to just eight for the whole SCR-I squad. Dakota Wells and Andrew Duley connected on three pointers for SCR-I.
The third period was even more difficult for SCR-I on offense. The Tigers managed just five points, the highlight of which was center Kyle Shelley’s first three-pointer of the year.
Wells connected from long-distance again in the fourth period but Canton outscored SCR-I 10-9 in the final eight minutes to post the 67-34 victory.
Wells led Scotland County (6-19) with eight points. Brandon Garnett and Shelley each added seven points.
Canton improved to 15-7 behind Ellison’s 24 points. Colt Carper added 14 points.
