Seventh Grade Girls Make Strides During 2008-09 Season
Things were a bit rough for the Scotland County seventh grade girls basketball team, which endured a seven game losing streak in the middle of the season, but the girls picked up a nice victory down the stretch to build upon for next year.
Overall the junior high squad was 2-9 on the year.
Clark County knocked off the lady Tigers 19-1 in the season opener.
The girls rebounded to beat Schuyler County 18-16 behind nine points from Hailie Stone. Amber Kaldenberg and Kaitlin VanHoozen each contributed four points in the win.
SCR-I ran into the Lady Indians again, dropping a 38-5 decision on November 11th.
Knox County handed the Lady Tigers a 40-14 defeat on November 13th. Jessica Clark led Scotland County with four points.
Schuyler County avenged the early season defeat, besting SCR-I 18-12. Stone led the way with six points and Ashley Curry added four points.
The Lady Tigers dropped another close contest, falling to Milan 17-12 on November 19th. Anna Hirner and Sarah Sites were top scorers for SCR-I.
Close but no cigar happened again, as SCR-I fell to Putnam County 12-10 despite six points from Stone.
The losing streak grew to six in a row on December 2nd as Knox County bested the Lady Tigers 27-8.
A second half rally fell just short as Scotland County fell to Schuyler County 16-10 after being shutout in the first half. Jordyn Doubet led the team in scoring.
Scotland County demolished Canton 22-4 on December 8th. The season came to a close with a 39-18 loss to Kirksville.
