Indians Stay Unbeaten in Conference With Big Win Over Scotland County

The flu bug doesnít play any favorites. That was obvious on February 3rd in Memphis when the Scotland County Tigers headed into the toughest game on the 2008-09 schedule battling illness.

Scotland County started three freshmen in the Tuesday night tilt against the Indians who were undefeated in conference action. Leading scorer Jacob Howard was on the bench battling the flu.

Clark County took advantage of the inexperienced starting squad, jumping out to a 14-0 in the games first five minutes.

Howard came off the bench and got the team on the score board, but the Indians led 18-5 at the end of the first period.

Forward Michael Brennan did the bulk of the damage for the Indians. He scored 15 first half points.

The Indians led 27-6 midway through the second period before Howard hit back-to-back buckets. Kyle Shelley hit a shot at the buzzer to make it 35-12 at the intermission.

Derrick Muntz and Brandon Garnett got into the scorebook with buckets in the third period but that was all the scoring for SCR-I, which fell behind 52-16 with eight minutes left to play.

Scotland County picked up the scoring in the final period, putting up 11 points despite the running clock that shortened the opportunities. Drew Miller opened the scoring with a basket. Dakota Wells connected on a three pointer. Kyle Shelley had a couple buckets before Harley Stone closed out the night with a bucket to make the final score 57-27.

Howard scored seven points in limited action to lead Scotland County (5-16, 0-4). Shelley finished with six points.

Clark County improved to 12-4 and 5-0 in league play. Brennan led the way with 17 points.
