Lady Tigers Light Up LaPlata From Long Range
Scotland County used a balance scoring attack to get by LaPlata 56-38 in the opening round of the North Shelby Tournament on January 19th.
The Lady Tigers were on fire from behind the arc, hitting seven three pointers on the night. Melissa Cotton was the top sharp shooter. She drilled a pair of three pointers in the first period to help Scotland County take a 14-8 lead.
She duplicated that performance in the second period. Deidra Dochterman also connected from behind the line while Kelsey Frazier and Valerie Oldham both had a pair of baskets during a 19-11 second period run that saw SCR-I jump on top 33-19.
Dochterman kept the perimeter game clicking in the third period. She drilled her second three pointer of the night as SCR-I expanded the margin to 45-28.
Ashley Tague took over in the fourth period. She scored six points down the stretch and Betsey Kittle added a three pointer as SCR-I rolled to the 56-38 win.
Cotton led SCR-I (9-5) with 12 points. Kaitlin Caldwell finished with 10 points and Oldham, Dochterman and Tague each pitched in with eight points.
