Tigers Looking For Fresh Start to Ring in New Year
After a solid start and a third place finish in the Novinger Tournament, Scotland County lost its final four games of 2008 and the Tigers are looking forward to turning the calendar page to 2009 for a fresh start.
The four-game losing streak came at the hands of some tough competition, the likes of Centerville, IA, Highland, Monroe City and Schuyler County. It won’t get any easier to start 2009.
The Tigers return to action January 2nd against reigning District champions Knox County in a game rescheduled from December 19th due to the weather.
After that the Tigers will return to school January 5th and head to Ewing, MO, for the 37th annual Highland Tournament. The six-team field is divided into two pools, with SCR-I in Pool A with Palmyra and Highland.
SCR-I will take on Palmyra on Monday, January 5th at 6:00 p.m. They will take the court again the following night at the same time to take on the host Cougars. Pool play will determine the final games. The boys third place and consolation games are scheduled for Friday night with the championship contest on Saturday evening.
Senior Jacob Howard is leading the Tigers (2-5) scoring 15.1 points a night. He had a career-high 27 points in the season opener.
Kyle Shelley is averaging 9.0 points a game and has stepped up his scoring output after a slow start to the season that saw him limited to a combined three points in the first two games.
Fellow junior Brandon Garnett is averaging 8.6 points a night while freshman Harley Stone has scored at a 6.7-points-per-game clip.
