MARY NELL BISSELL MONROE

Mary Nell Bissell Monroe was born May 16, 1920 at the Bissell family farm south of Downing, Missouri to the parents of John and Nellie (Green) Bissell, and died November 7, 2009 at the Scotland County Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Missouri.
At the age of 10 years, Mary Nell was baptized on April 27, 1930 in Westmont, Illinois.
Mary Nell attended school in Downing, Missouri, graduating from Downing High School in 1939.
On September 13, 1942 in Abilene, Texas, Mary Nell became the lovely wife of Richard Stone Monroe. Mary Nell and Richard lived in Texas until Richardís deployment overseas during World War II. Mary Nell returned to Schuyler County and lived with her parents until Richard was discharged from the United States Army.
During the war, Mary Nell worked in Texas in an egg factory, preparing powdered eggs and developed a real dislike for eggs. She also worked as a telephone switchboard operator and along with Jeri Baker catered weddings and anniversaries, having Richard and the boys sampling the mints. Anyone and everyone who knew Mary Nell, knew that her greatest love was her family and her faith in the Lord.
Preceding Mary Nell in death were her parents; husband Richard of 53 years; and sons, Charles Richard and David Lee; her brother, Junior Bissell and sister-in-law, Faye Bissell.
Surviving are sons Kenneth and wife Marsha and Lynn and wife Ginny of Memphis, Missouri; grandchildren, Dustin (Tacy), Devin (Jessica), Melissa, Heather, Elizabeth (Troy) and Micheal (Julie);0great-grandchildren, Brandon, Brett, Delsin and Emma; step-grandchildren, Amy (Mike) and Madigan Frederick. Shirley Witt and son Richard are surviving niece and great-nephew of Hermitage, Missouri; along with Mary Nellís family are a host of friends.
Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Care Center, Scotland County Memorial Hospital or donors choice and can be left with or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison St., Memphis, Missouri 63555
Funeral Services were held at the First Christian Church in Memphis on Tuesday, November 10, 2009 with Larry Smith and Joe Fulk officiating. Interment was in Memphis Cemetery, Memphis, Missouri. Services were conducted by Payne Funeral Chapel and Memphis Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Dustin Monroe, Melissa Monroe, Elizabeth Monroe, Brandon Monroe, Devin Holt, Heather Monroe, Micheal Monroe and Amy Frederick. Honorary Pallbearers were Jeri Baker and Maxine Brown. Musicians were Ann Luther, Alisa Kigar, Joe and Lori Fulk.
