Delbert Ray Hyde, 71, Independence, MO, passed away August 25, 2009, at Kansas City, MO.

Funeral services were held Friday, August 28, 2009 at Mt. Washington Mausoleum Chapel. Burial in Mt. Washington Cemetery, Independence, MO.

Delbert was born to Hollis and Nellie Smith Hyde May 5, 1938.

He served in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge.

Delbert was united in marriage to Margaret Van Meter on July 18, 1964, and is survived by two step- children, Annette Humphrey of Memphis, MO and Bill Van Meter of Independence, MO.

Delbert was employed by Graphic Packaging for 48 years at the time of his death. He worked part time for Wal-Mart, which he thoroughly enjoyed.

Delbert grew up in Memphis, MO, attending Brock Grade School and Memphis High School graduating in 1956.

He was a Christian having accepted Christ into his heart.

He enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. His great joys were his family and the annual Hyde reunion.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Annette Humphrey and her husband, Jon of Memphis, MO, and Bill Van Meter of Independence, MO; grandchildren, John Gauld, Dustin Humphrey, Katie Van Meter; step-granddaughter, Lacy Wallace; two step-great-grandchildren; one great-grandchildren, John Gauld; one brother, Leland Hyde and wife, Doloroes of Memphis, MO; six sisters, Mary Drummond of Conway, MO, Ruth Moore and husband, Bob of Keokuk, IA, Carol Bundy and husband, Don of Blue Springs, MO, Virginia Bertram and husband, Fred of Gorin, MO, Nelda Boatman and husband, Asie of Wayland, MO, Barbara Hughes and husband, Norman of Kirksville, MO; a sister-in-law, Kathy Hyde of Conway, MO; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Gennie Ridge and Evelyn Gatlin; two brothers, Charles Hyde and Phil Hyde.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
