Maxine Jane Elschlager, 87, formerly of Lancaster, MO, passed away on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Schuyler County Nursing home in Queen City, MO, where she had been a resident since June 2003.

The daughter of Orville Newton and Geneva Clare (Preston) Baker, she was born on September 1, 1921 in Oklahoma City, OK.

She graduated from Overbrook High School in Overbrook, KS, and attended business college in Topeka, KS.

During WWII, Maxine was united in marriage to Paul David Elschlager on March 9, 1946 in Overbrook, KS, and to this union three sons were born, Larry, Steven and Stanley.

Survivors include her children, Steven Elschlager and wife, Susan of Kirksville, MO and Stanley Elschlager and wife, Lori of Kirksville, MO; five grandchildren, Amy Elschlager, Nick Elschlager, Eren Davis and husband, Steve, Rian Elschlager and Lathen Elschlager; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Marie and Brady Scott Davis; two sisters, Jean Hodson and husband, Bill of Kansas and Shirley Johnson and husband, Rex of Clinton, KS; one brother, Creed Baker and wife, Sarah of Kansas City, MO; nieces; nephews; cousins and many good friends.

Maxine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul David Elschlager on December 17, 2005; one son, Larry Elschlager in 1965 and one sister, Virginia Aldridge.

Maxine was a member of the United Methodist Church of Lancaster, MO, where she served faithfully as the organist for a number of years. She enjoyed playing the piano for her family especially the grandchildren while they sang along.

Maxine also worked for Flora Redmon who was County Clerk for Schuyler County during several terms.

Funeral services were held on Monday, July 6, 2009, at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO, with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith of Lancaster, MO assisted by Leanna vanZandt, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Lancaster, MO officiating. Music was provided by Maureen Watkins, organist. Special music selection was “Amazing Grace” and “Over The Rainbow”. Pallbearers were Nick Elschlager, Rich Kinney, Kenny Beeler, Jim Beeler, John Tippett, and Loyd Jackson. Memorials have been established for Campground Cemetery. Burial will be in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, MO.
