GILVIE DOUGLAS BERTRAM

Gilvie Douglas Bertram, age 96, of Colony, Missouri, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2009, at the LaBelle Manor Care Center in LaBelle, Missouri.
He was born on November 17, 1912, at Rutledge, Missouri the son of Ernest C. and Ruth Short Bertram.
On May 28, 1936, he was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Litchfield at Ewing, Missouri and she preceded him in death on March 10, 2007.
Gilvie was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Garland and Richard Bertram and two nephews, Ronnie Mayfield and Phillip York.
Surviving are one daughter Ellen Sue Morice and husband Bill of Fenton, Missouri; three sisters, Gertrude Deegan of Las Vegas, Nevada, Irene Mayfield of Rutledge, Missouri, Anna Lee York of Jefferson City, Missouri; one sister-in-law Rose Fishback of Kirksville, Missouri; and several nieces and nephews.
Gilvie received his education in Colony rural schools and graduated from Gorin High School in 1931. He was engaged in farming all of his life in the Colony area where he also raised and showed Polled Hereford cattle. He was president of the Missouri Polled Hereford Association in 1973-1974, which was the largest state Polled Hereford Association in the United States.
Gilvie was a 60-year member of the Colony Masonic Lodge # 168 of Colony, Missouri, having served as Worshipful Master several times, served as District Deputy Grand Master and was a 32 Degree member of the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry Valley of Columbia.
Gilvie was a member of the Colony Order of The Eastern Star Chapter # 543 of Colony, Missouri. He was also a member of the Mark Twain Rural Telephone Company Board of Directors for over twenty-five years.
He was a member of the Colony Baptist Church, a long time leader of the Colony 4-H Club, one of the founders of the Colony Rainbow Riders Saddle Club, one of the early members of the LaBelle Rodeo Association, conducted horse shows several years for Granville Husteadís Colony Fall Fair and long time member of the Colony Cemetery Association.
Funeral services were held May 20, 2009, at the Hudson-Rimer Funeral Home in Edina, Missouri. Reverend Mike Wilson officiated the services.
Burial was in the Colony Cemetery.
Music was provided by JoAnne Layman, soloist and Carol Hayes, organist. Musical selections were ďSweet By And ByĒ and ďAmazing GraceĒ.
Casket bearers were Elza Hustead, Charles Mayfield, Chad York, Don Miller, Bob Pape and Terry Guinn.
Masonic services were held May 19, 2009, at Colony Lodge # 168 A.F. & A.M.
