Reverend Charles W. Jones, 84, of Forrest City, AR, went peacefully home to be with the Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 11, 2009.

Born in Bloomfield, MO, on March 19, 1925, to Frank Wesley and Helen Bennett Jones, he attended Bloomfield Public School until joining the Army in June of 1944. He served in World War II as a Staff Sgt. as a member of the 99th Infantry Division and was awarded three bronze stars. Mr. Jones served with Ted Gundy of Memphis, MO, and was responsible for Mr. Gundyís immediate care when he was seriously injured in combat. He returned home and married Peggy Naile in 1947 and found his calling as a Southern Baptist Minister and was ordained in August of 1950. In September of 1950, he was called back to active duty for the Korean Conflict and soon was appointed as Chaplain.

Upon discharge, he attended the California Baptist College while pastoring Westside Baptist Church in Fontana, CA. After graduation he pastored Arvin First Southern Baptist Church for 10 years. He then answered a call to pastor in Moro, AR, for two years until going to Salem Baptist Church in Benton, AR. He stayed in Benton for eight years until returning to Moro, where he pastored until his retirement in 1990.

Affectionately known as Preacher, he was a devoted pastor for 45 years who never failed to help a person in need. Throughout his ministry he conducted over 1000 funerals, a testament to the comfort his ministry brought, along with pastoring, Brother Jones served as Mayor of Moro for years. While mayor he was responsible for bringing natural gas and cable television to the area. Upon his retirement he served as Chaplain for Forrest City Medical Center and Patientís Choice Hospice. He also was a volunteer for Project Literacy US and an interim pastor in many East Arkansas churches.

Brother Jones was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Mary Elizabeth Jones; mother-in-law, Martha Neal; and one grandson, Wesley Owen Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peggy Jones; sister, Louella Jones Sherrod and husband, Jack; daughters, JoLyn Roland, Judy Webb; sons, Chuck Jones and wife, Sherry, Mark Jones, Brent Jones; special daughters, Mary Koontz and April Allmond, grandchildren, Jeremy and April Wilson, Lesli and Matt Easley, Nathan and Carly Nalley, Cori and Wesley Yarbrough, Chase Jones and Tara, Ryan, Shiala and Jeremy Tippins; special granddaughters, Morgan and Hannah Watlington; great-grandchildren, Kyle Matthew, Blake, Makinley, Makayla, Jessie, Olivia, Austin, Natalee, Logan Cameron. He was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his two newest grandchildren, Abbey and Nathan. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Moro Baptist Church with burial at Missouri State Veteran Cemetery in Bloomfield, MO, on Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. by Bob Neal and Sons Funeral Home, Brinkley.
