Melinda Masden Walk/Run Health Fair October 3
Heart Disease remains the number one killer in Scotland County. A staggering 50% of all Americans have elevated cholesterol, which is a direct contributor to cardiovascular disease, which can lead to strokes or heart attacks.
No longer is it attacking just the elderly. Obesity in our children can lead to elevated blood pressure and cholesterol, joint problems. Type II diabetes, gallbladder disease, asthma, depression and anxiety. Of overweight 5 to 10 year olds 61% have at least one risk factor for heat disease. It is imperative that we learn how to live healthy lifestyles to ensure seeing our children grow into active, productive and healthy adults.
Come act against it by walking with us. Come learn how to fight against it by participating in the 3rd Annual Melinda Masden Memorial Walk/Run and Health Fair on October 3, 2009. You can choose to participate in a 4+ or 1.25 mile walk/run that will meet at the Gorin School at 8:15 a.m. to be bussed to the starting line.

The Health Fair will start at 9:45 a.m. and include booths and activities provided by Scotland County Extension Office, Scotland County Memorial Hospital, Scotland County Health Department, Scotland County Nursing Home, Healthy Women and Seniors Plus, Brenna Cook Exercise Science and more.
