Share the Harvest Program to Offer Donation Drop-Off Site
We live in a drive-thru era, so the Scotland County Rotary Club and the Scotland County Food Pantry will be joining forces to offer the greatest convenience for deer hunters wishing to donate to the Share the Harvest program this year.
The two charity groups will provide a drop-off service at Gas & More parking lot on Highway 136 in Memphis to allow hunters to donate their deer to the food program, which provides venison to area needy families.
Volunteers will be on hand Saturday and Sunday both weekends of the Missouri Firearms deer season. The trailers will be available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Any hunter interested in donating their deer to Share the Harvest, may leave the animal with the volunteers at the site once it has legally been registered via the Missouri telecheck system.
A free-will offering will be accepted from hunters wishing to make a monetary contribution to help offset the cost of processing the meat.
This will be the second year the drop off is being offered to local hunters in an effort to increase the total amount of venison generated by the charity food drive. Last year an estimated two thirds of the 75 deer donated to the project were donated at the drop-off site.
Hunters that take deer during the week can still donate to Share the Harvest by transporting the animal to the Rutledge Meat Locker.
