The Store Reopens in New, Bigger Building

Two months after armed robbers looted The Store, a convenience store located on the Scotland/Clark county line, the operation is back up and running in a new building.

Owners Shawn and Sondra Shannan had hoped to be open in the new store to mark the businessís sixth anniversary on August 1st but had to settle for August 5th to debut the new grill, expanded grocery line, DVD rentals and much more.

The Store expanded more than twofold, growing from 550 sq. feet to more than 1,500 sq. feet in the new facility.

The expansion had been in the works prior to the June 13th burglary, but the incident expedited the process as the amount of damage done during the crime made it necessary to remodel the shop.

The Shannans began pouring cement on June 26th and are continuing to put some finishing touches on the interior of the building.

The Store opened on the 5th, and the first customers were served in the new kitchen area on August 10th. The grill will serve breakfast from 7-10 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. They also have hand-dipped ice cream, shakes and other desserts.

ďWe are still working on the menus,Ē said Shawn Shannan. ďWeíll offer a variety of lunch sandwiches and hope to eventually have a daily special. Another idea is a breakfast buffet during deer season.Ē

The expanded seating area also features a pool table and touch-screen video game. The Shannans hope to offer a unique advertising opportunity for area businesses, using logo coffee mugs from area merchants for the morning java drinkers.

ďWe just thought it would be a neat way for these merchants to get some added advertising out of the coffee mugs they normally give away to customers,Ē Shawn said.

The added floor space will allow the Shannanís to continue to expand the grocery line available in The Store, which will continue to offer fuel sales as well.

The new building will not only offer opportunities to expand the inventory. Despite being more than twice as large, the new building is offering energy savings for the owners, taking advantage of improved efficiencies in the construction as well as the heating and cooling systems.
