Relay For Life Set for June 12-13

The 9th Annual Scotland County Relay For Life will be held this Friday and Saturday, June 12th and 13th on the Memphis City Square from 6:30 p.m. to 6:30 a.m.

The evening will begin with the Survivors Reception starting at 4:00 p.m. in the VFW Hall. Following the reception, the Relay will begin with the Color Guard and singing of the National Anthem performed by Randy Watkins.

They will then have the survivors lap followed by the care givers lap. Teams will be announced and they will take their lap. They will then begin their journey around the square until 6:30 a.m. the next morning.

They are lucky to have back Sound Trek Music Machine with Dr. G.L. Collier from Canton. The Canine Capers and the Show Me Dog Club, with leader Jean Hull, will perform their dog routines.

The Luminary Service will begin at 9:00 p.m. with Rick Fischer reading the names. You may purchase luminaries from any team member or contact Michael Moore, and if they are purchased by June 11th at 4:00 p.m. they will be placed in alphabetical order around the square. If purchased after that time they will be placed at the end. If you plan on lighting your luminaries that you bought, please bring your lighter.

After the luminary service, we will once again have the “Empty Table” reading. The public will then be entertained by the teams as they perform Lip Syncs.

They are proud to have seven teams this year and they are as follows, FCCLA, UMC Youth Group, SCCC, Debbie Briggs, Jeri Mohr, No Payne No Gain, and a new team – Beverly Moore. Throughout the event the teams will offer food, chances, raffles and items for sale.

The event will come to a close on Saturday morning at 6:30 a.m. with the release of the balloons. As always, this part of the Relay is not the ‘Ending’ but a ‘Beginning’ for the next year. So bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the evening with us, celebrating those who have survived and remembering those who have lost their battle. The Relay Members want to say they appreciate those who have donated and or supported the 2009 Scotland County Relay For Life. They hope to see you this Friday night.
