Memphis Man Facing Charges Following Arrest in Kirksville

A Memphis man faces a number of charges after the Kirksville Police Department apparently solved a string of thefts from motor vehicles parked in the northeast Missouri town.

Robert S. Cobb, 35, of 121 Sanders St. in Memphis, was arrested and faces numerous charges related to the thefts.

According to the KPD, Cobb and a second man, Daryl Shaw, 20, of Kirksville, were apprehended by Truman University Police following an incident May 22nd. Two male TSU students reportedly witnessed the two suspects attempting to break into vehicles in the parking lot of the Phi Sigma Kappa House. The students then chased the two suspects, subdueing Cobb while Shaw fled to a nearby apartment complex parking lot where officers located him hiding under a vehicle.

During the ensuing investigation, the KPD, working in conjunction with the Asset Protection Manager from the Kirksville Wal-Mart store identified Cobb, Shaw and a 15-year-old Kirksville juvenile in store surveillance videotape. The store had been working with law enforcement officers investigating the theft of several Wal-Mart gift cards from a vehicle that had been parked in the Kings Ridge addition in Kirksville earlier in the month.

The evidence helped link the two suspects to a string of thefts and a pair of burglairies.

Cobb was arrested on a probation/parole violation warrant. He was transported to the Adair County Sheriff’s Department for incarceration before being returned to the Fulton State Prison the following day.

At the time of his arrest, Cobb was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, and third degree assault. Charges are pending related to the thefts and burglaries.

Detective Sgt. Ron Celian indicated that with the help of a community business, the Wal-Mart Asset Protection Manager, Truman University police and students, the KPD was able to close several thefts from vehicles cases as well as two home invasion burglaries.
