Nick Moss & The Flip Tops to Perform at Memphis VFW

A lot of musicians call Memphis their home, Memphis, Tennessee that is. Thanks to the Lilí Memphis Blues Society, the rural northeast Missouri town is becoming a home away from home of sorts for at least one top performer.

Twelve-time Blues Music Award Nominee Nick Moss & The Flip Tops will once again be in Memphis, Missouri to perform. The show will be hosted at the Memphis V.F.W. hall on Friday, April 10th starting at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Moss traces his music roots further north, to another traditional music town, Chicago.

Passionate blues fans around the country gravitate to Nickís playing in live performances and on recordings because of that stylistic link to the Chicago blues past. But Nickís music also holds enormous appeal for casual fans of blues and even novices.

ďIím trying to find that fine line of not compromising the integrity of that classic music,Ē Nick says, ďand yet still make it a little fresher-sounding and contemporary-sounding where I can get across to the element of the crowd that isnít hard-core.Ē

After completing his blues graduate studies in the late 1990s Moss and The Flip Tops released their first album, First Offense. Their second effort, Got a New Plan, came out in 2001 and then two years later a third album, Count Your Blessings was released. The latter two received W. C. Handy award nominations. The groupís fourth album was released in June 2005 and was entitled Sadie Mae, named after his baby daughter. The bandís fifth release came in July of 2005 with Live At Chanís. It went on to receive two 2007 Blues Music Award nominations, Album of the Year and Traditional Blues Album of the Year while also earning the group a nomination Band of the Year and Instrumentalist: Guitar for Moss. The latest release from the group is a two-CD set entitled Play It Til Tomorrow.
