U.S. Cellular Expands Network In Rural Missouri
U.S. Cellular recently completed construction of 10 additional cell sites in rural Missouri to improve call quality for its customers. The sites increase U.S. Cellular’s coverage and network capacity in Baring, Downing, Warsaw, Rolla, St. James, Columbia, Kingston, Branson, Lucerne and Jefferson City and provide enhanced service along many major routes into and out of these areas. The new sites complement U.S. Cellular’s statewide network of more than 774 towers.
“Your cell phone is your lifeline to the people who are most important to you,” said Nathan Waddell, director of sales for U.S. Cellular in Missouri. “We’re here to keep you connected and these new towers help us do just that.”
The new cell sites are part of a $35 million 2008 network investment in the state. With each new cell site, service is enhanced for approximately 75 -150 square miles. “These areas lacked quality wireless service. As a result, we identified the community as a priority. People everywhere depend on their cell phones to meet critical safety and business needs,” added Waddell.
U.S. Cellular has a team of network engineers who drive all over the coverage area to test signal strength and call quality. The company also listens to customer feedback to determine the best locations for new cell sites.
Towers in Lucerne, Warsaw, Rolla, St. James and Downing were built by U.S. Cellular with support from the federal Universal Service Fund, a critical resource for wireless expansion throughout rural America.
In Missouri, as in other parts of rural America, first responders like firefighters and police officers depend on wireless service to respond quickly to emergency situations. Nationwide, nearly 300,000 emergency 9-1-1 calls are placed via cell phones every day.
