Aunt Faye’s Diner Serves ‘Inaugural’ Meals

January 20th marked a new day in history for the United States as Barack Obama was inaugurated as the 44th president of the United States. That day also marked a change for Memphis, as Aunt Faye’s Diner marked its grand opening.

“Just as our leader offers a time for change, the staff at Aunt Faye’s Diner is working hard at giving our community something they’ve never had the opportunity to enjoy, the convenience of fast food delivery,” said owner Belinda Faye Petersen.

Belinda is no stranger to the industry, as she has worked in a variety of restaurants and has a family background in the business. She is pulling upon that history to help with the current project as Aunt Faye’s is truly a family business, with Belinda’s husband David, her daughter Loretta and son Blake as well her stepmother Teresa Miller all playing roles in the new facility.

“I guess you can say it is all in the family here,” said Belinda who credits her family for helping complete a whirlwind month of January that saw the project come together in just two weeks.

“We first inquired about the availability of the business on January 5th and we bought it two days later,” she said.

The former Junction Cafe had closed last fall. The facility is located at the intersection of Highway 15 North and Highway 136 in Memphis.

The family opened its doors for service on January 20th, with tales of a trip to Mayo’s Clinic complete with a terrible snowstorm tossed into the short time frame to prepare.

“We were here until 1:30 a.m. on more than one occasion,” Belinda said of the weeks leading up to the opening. “But we kept to the schedule and opened the doors at 6:00 a.m. Plenty of family and friends made sure of it.”

Aunt Faye’s Diner features homestyle cooking from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. seven days a week.

A daily breakfast special is available as well as a variety of menu items to choose from such as eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns, pancakes and biscuits and gravy.

Lunch features a daily “Aunt Faye’s Special” for just $5 or the house specialty hot beef plate which is available seven days a week during the lunch hour.

Nightly dinner specials are also available with menu items including catfish, shrimp, hamsteak, pork chops, and a variety of steaks. All the diner’s meat comes from Lumley Locker in LaBelle, MO.

The menu features homemade French fries and a variety of homemade pies and desserts.

Aunt Faye’s Diner offers free delivery to senior citizens and businesses. Residential delivery is available for $2, excluding the lunch hour from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
