March Hearing to Set Murder Trial Date
A trial setting has been scheduled for March 20 in the case of the State of Missouri vs. Michael J. Mutchler. The court will establish the trial date for the case during this hearing.
Mutchler is facing charges of murder in the first degree and armed criminal action stemming from the June 2008 shooting death of a Wyaconda man in rural Scotland County.
In the seven months since the arrest, the court system has changed the judge and moved the case out of Scotland County.
The case was assigned to Judge Gary Wallace after a change of judge request by the defense was approved in October.
Then on December 16, 2008, a change of venue request by the defense was granted. The case was moved to the Circuit Court of Shelby County.
On January 16th, in the case’s first hearing in its new settings, Judge Wallace denied a defense motion to reduce the bond for Mutchler. Judge Karl DeMarce had established a $1 million cash only bond at the time of Mutchler’s initial arraignment and denied a request for a bond reduction at the August preliminary hearing.
Mutchler remains in the custody of the Scotland County Sheriff’s Department. He is being held in the Adair County Detention Center.
