Keith’s Cafe to Reopen February 1st Under New Ownership
Faithful customers of Keith’s Cafe are used to patiently awaiting the return of the business after its traditional January holiday.
But when the sale of the business was announced at the end of 2008, mouths began watering for those t-bone steaks and all of the other menu favorites that might not return.
Those concerns were laid to rest when details of the sale became public midway through January.
Keith’s Café will be re-opening February 1st, just like it had for nearly 60 years. New ownership is in place and a few minor adjustments in the staff have been made, but other than that, customers can expect the return of one of their favorite restaurants.
“The menu is going to be exactly the same,” said new owner Andy Boyer. “Zelda is even going to be here on opening day.”
One change will be the business hours. Boyer said Keith’s Café will now be open daily from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Before Keith’s Café had always been closed on Thursday evening.
Former owners Zelda and Junior Keith have been active in the transition process, lending Boyer, Rob Shannon and the rest of the restaurant’s staff a hand in preparing for the reopening Sunday, February 1st.
Shannon, who got his start in the restaurant business as a cook at Keith’s Cafe, said the former owners have been instrumental in making the transition run smoothly.
“It is still going to be Keith’s Cafe,” said Junior Keith. “The phone number [465-8581] is even still the same. So they are keeping the name, the number and of course the cups.”
The restaurant has become famous for its quality food as well as for the unique décor. Hundreds if not thousands of coffee mugs are displayed from the ceiling of the dining rooms giving customers plenty of unique scenery.
“We went through the mugs when we were helping clean up, and I found a few that will be going home with me for sentimental reasons,” said Zelda Keith. “But the rest of them have been cleaned and are back in place ready for Sunday.”
