Two Vicious Dogs Killed During Attack on Livestock

Just days after being released from the Memphis City dog pound, a pair of vicious dogs was involved in another incident that ultimately ended with their demise.

On January 12th, the caninesí owner, who was in the process of moving away from Memphis, paid the impoundment fees and had the animals released into her custody, at which time they were reportedly transported to Wyaconda.

The two dogs were impounded after police officers used a tranquilizer gun to stop the animals from harassing livestock on Christmas Eve in Memphis. The two dogs were running at large, and were responsible for the death of a third dog, which they allegedly attacked while it was chained up on private property.

Less than a week after their release, the two dogs found themselves in hot water once again.

Wyaconda resident Chris Sprouse reported an incident with the two dogs, which he said were a Boxer and a Boxer/Pit Bull mix. Sprouse stated the two dogs were running free in Wyaconda on the evening of January 18th. The animals entered his property, on the west edge of Wyaconda, and confronted his dogs. Sprouse stated when he attempted to chase the dogs off, they acted aggressively towards him before ultimately retreating.

The following morning Chrisís wife Lisa went into their barn to feed the coupleís miniature donkeys, when she found the two dogs inside the structure where they were attacking the animals. Chris stated he entered the barn where he saw the animals also acting aggressively towards his wife. After getting her to safety he went to a neighborís home and borrowed a rifle, which he ultimately returned to the barn with and shot both dogs to secure his property.

ďI love dogs,Ē said Chris Sprouse. ďBut these two werenít scared of anyone. Thatís why I killed them.Ē

The couple reported the incident to the Clark County Sheriffís Department and charges are pending against the dogsí owner.

Sprouse transported his livestock to the Clark County Veterinary Clinic, where one of the donkeys was treated for approximately 30 to 40 puncture wounds on its leg and buttocks.
