Blood Donors Rewarded For Giving Gift of Life
“It takes two to save a life.” The new American Red Cross blood drive slogan highlights a new partner in the agency’s efforts to increase donations but also reminds everyone that goodwill and compassion are the key to the program’s success.
Sonic, America’s favorite drive-in has partnered with the Red Cross to offer all blood donors a coupon for a free medium cherry limeade as well as another coupon for buy one, get one free Sonic burger.
Scotland County donors will get the opportunity to cash in on the restaurant’s benevolence on Tuesday, January 6th. The local blood drive will start at 12:30 p.m. in the multi-purpose room at the First Baptist Church in Memphis. Donors will be received until 6:00 p.m.

The American Red Cross has two promotions underway to encourage blood donations in the coming weeks as donations typically decline around the holidays even though the need for blood is constant. Red Cross Racing, the Red Cross’s donor rewards program where donors can earn points that can be redeemed for Red Cross Racing gear, is providing an additional incentive. Those who donate blood or platelets at a Red Cross blood drive or donor center between now and January 15 will receive double the points from Red Cross Racing for each donation they report at redcrossracing.com.
The American Red Cross provides nearly half of the nation’s blood supply. The need for blood is constant - every two seconds somebody in the nation needs blood. NASCAR fans, which make up about one-third of the U.S. population, are well-known for being giving, civic-minded, and patriotic. Red Cross Racing is a new initiative designed to link NASCAR fans with the American Red Cross in a meaningful, fulfilling, and fun way to help the organization achieve its annual blood supply goals.
At the center of the program is the first-ever NASCAR-based Blood Donor Rewards program. We hope NASCAR fans, many of whom give blood, will give blood often under this new program to help bolster our nation’s blood supply and eliminate blood shortages.
Through a unique donation by 3M Corporation, which donated two full paint schemes of the No. 16 Ford Fusion to feature the Red Cross logo at two races, as well as No. 16’s rear quarter panels for 10 races, the Red Cross is participating in the world of NASCAR. You’ll see us at the track promoting Red Cross Racing and our mission, and working hard to get you involved in the Blood Donor Rewards program.
Jut like NASCAR, blood donors can make it on to the leader board at the American Red Cross racing website, www.redcrossracing.com. Teams can be formed and donors receive points for each donation, which may be redeemed for a variety of prizes.
