Lady Tigers Stay Perfect With Win in Centerville

After cruising through the competition at the Novinger Tournament en route to the championship trophy, Scotland County received a different welcome at Centerville, Iowa on December 15th when the Lady Tigers played their fourth straight road game.

After winning by an average margin of 30 points in its first three outings, Scotland County was forced to play a full 32-minutes on Monday night in Iowa, before finally prevailing 51-46.

“I definitely think it was good for us to have a ball game like this,” said coach Jaryt Hunziker. “It was back and forth all night with 10 or 12 lead changes.”

SCR-I jumped out to an early 13-9 lead behind six points from Melissa Cotton.

Deidra Dochterman hit her second three pointer of the first half, and that proved to be the difference, as the Lady Tigers led 26-23 at the intermission.

Centerville trimmed the deficit to one 35-34 in the third period, holding SCR-I to just three field goals in the quarter, all by Kaitlin Caldwell.

Kelsey Frazier converted a three-point play in the fourth period to offer SCR-I some breathing room.

Centerville stayed within striking distance until Caldwell sank two free throws late to make it a two-possession contest with under 30 seconds to play.

Scotland County (4-0) held on for the 51-46 win. Caldwell finished with 13 points to lead the Lady Tigers. Cotton added 12 points and Frazier pitched in with eight.
