Highland Hijacks Win Over SCR-I With 16-2 Second Quarter Run
A solid start was done in by a 16-2 run in the second period as Scotland County fell to Highland 56-38 on Saturday, December 13th at Ewing.
The rare Saturday night game for the Tigers didn’t seem to slow down SCR-I, which held its own in the first period. Jacob Howard had a pair of buckets in the opening minutes as the two squads closed the first period tied at 8-8.
But the offense went south for the Tigers in the second period. A field goal by Howard was the lone points of the quarter for SCR-I which fell behind 24-10 at the break courtesy of Highland’s 16-2 run.
Highland put the contest away in the third period, outscoring SCR-I 18-9 to lead 42-19.
Brandon Garnett drilled a pair of three pointers in the fourth period, but the Tigers rally was stalled by poor free throw shooting allowing Highland to prevail 56-38. SCR-I went 3 of 13 from the charity stripe in the fourth period allowing the Cougars (2-5) to snap a four-game losing streak.
Kyle Shelley finished with 13 points to lead Scotland County (2-3). Garnett added 12 points and Howard finished with seven.
Highland was led in scoring by sophomore forward Adam Morrall with 13 points. Kyle Ellison finished with 12 points and Paul Power added 11 points.
