Bats Silent in Two Tourney Losses for Scotland County

The Scotland County softball squad had as many hits as games played on Saturday at the North Central Missouri College Tournament in Trenton as the Lady Tigers ran into a pair of top pitchers.

SCR-I made the trip to Trenton early on Saturday morning, and the bats never made it off the bus for SCR-I, which was one-hit in back-to-back losses.

The Lady Tigers took on Trenton and got off to a good start. After Kelly Lister retired the side in order, she doubled in the bottom of the first inning, but was stranded in scoring position.

The Lady Bulldogs took advantage of a pair of SCR-I fielding errors to score three unearned runs in the top of the second. Skyler Alderton helped prevent a huge inning when she gunned down a runner at the plate.

Trentons Chanel Pash, a freshman, retired nine straight batters until Deidra Dochterman reached on an error in the bottom of the fourth.

The lone other base runner for SCR-I came in the sixth inning when Christina Duzan also reached on an error.

Trenton made it 4-0 in the top of the fourth inning. A two-out base hit followed by an error allowed the fourth unearned run of the game to cross the plate.

Lister took the loss on the mound despite not allowing an earned run. She gave up three hits and no walks while striking out three. SCR-I had five errors in the game.

Lawson jumped on top of SCR-I 6-0 in the first inning of game two with the benefit of just one hit. The Lady Cardinals chased SCR-I starter Kaitlin Caldwell after just six batters, as the senior hurler gave up a leadoff single and walked four batters. A pair of fielding miscues by the defense helped open the door for the big inning that saw Lawson send 11 batters to the plate before reliever Kelly Lister retired the third out.

Jessica Sites led off the contest with a single for SCR-I. But she was thrown out at second on a double play.

SCR-Is lone scoring threat came in the second inning when Deidra Dochterman walked to lead off the inning. But she was stranded at third base.

Lawson added single runs in the third and fourth inning to make the final score 8-0 in a game that went just five innings.

Caldwell took the loss on the mound for SCR-I. She allowed one hit and four walks. Three of the five runs charged to her were unearned. Lister pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs and one unearned run. She gave up three hits and two walks while striking out three.

The Lady Tigers saw their season mark drop to 2-8.
