Junior High Girls Basketball Season in Review
The Scotland County junior high girls have hit the track running as the spring season has arrived, but basketball season is not to far away in the rear view mirror.
The SCR-I eighth grade squad wrapped up the 2007-08 season with a 9-5 record.
The Lady Tigers opened the year with a 38-24 loss at Clark County. A 13-12 half time lead disappeared as the Indians closed the game on a 27-11 run. Cali Holt led SCR-I with 10 points. Loren Smith added nine points.
The following evening on October 30th SCR-I blasted Canton 46-10 to improve to 1-1. Holt exploded for 21 points in the winning effort. Smith added nine while Abby Clatt and Elizabeth Duzan each had six points.
November opened with a 35-29 loss to Putnam County in Memphis on the first. Holt had 11 points and Clatt added 10 in the defeat.
SCR-I got back to .500 with a 35-13 victory over Schuyler County on November 5th. Holt led the way with 15 points. Clatt finished with 12 and Smith added eight.
Clark County handed the Lady Tigers a 37-16 loss on November 6th in Memphis. Clatt led the way with nine points for SCR-I.
The Lady Tigers brought home second place from the Putnam County Tourney. SCR-I dispatched Milan 32-14 in the opener behind a season-best 22 points from Holt. Putnam County bested the Lady Tigers 27-18 before Scotland County blew out the Rams 36-7 in the trophy game. Kiley Frazier poured in 10 points in the victory.
A trip to North Shelby on November 19th resulted in a 37-5 victory. Holt and Smith combined to score 23 points. Clatt, Frazier, Duzan and Kelsey Enlow all got in the scorebook as well.
A 27-23 win at Edina on November 29th made it three in a row for SCR-I. Holt scored 13 points in the win and Smith added eight. Duzan, Enlow and Courtney Jackson all added scores.
Schuyler County was the next victim in the now four-game win streak as the Lady Tigers rolled to a 20-12 win to close out November. Smith scored nine points in the win.
The streak came to an end December 4th in a 30-15 loss to Putnam County.
The Lady Tigers closed out the year with a pair of victories at the Schuyler County Tournament. SCR-I beat Schuyler County 16-15 behind Smithís nine points. Scotland County closed out the year with a 23-15 win over Kirksville. Clatt scored nine points to lead the way.
Seventh Graders Go 3-10 on Season
The 2007 season got off to a rough start for the Scotland County seventh grade girls.
The Lady Tigers dropped six straight before closing the year with three wins in their next seven contests.
Clark County handed SCR-I a 37-7 loss in the season opener. Katie Howard led the Lady Tigers with five points. Days later the Indians shutout SCR-I 31-0 to drop the Lady Tigers to 0-2.
Megan Creek scored eight points and Howard added six but it wasnít enough in a 28-14 loss to Schuyler County November 5th.
The team fell to 0-4 with a 40-10 loss to Knox County. Kirksville bested SCR-I 41-15 on November ninth to keep the team winless. Howard had eight points in the loss and Anna Hirner added four.
Schuyler County beat Scotland County 22-8 in the opener of the Rams Tournament.
SCR-I broke into the win column with a 21-6 victory over Putnam County. Creek and Howard each had eight points.
A fourth quarter lead evaporated in North Shelby on November 19th as the Raiders escaped with a 15-14 win despite 10 points from Creek.
Knox County dropped the Lady Tigers to 1-8 with a 34-4 defeat. Schuyler County shut out SCR-I 24-0 on the last day of November.
December saw the Lady Tigers pick-up back-to-back victories over Canton. SCR-I won 16-1 on December 3rd behind 10 points from Creek. SCR-I bested Canton 12-9 in the Schuyler County Tournament. Creek had six points and Abbey Duley added four.
The season concluded with a 36-4 defeat by Kirksville.
