Bulldogs Slow Down SCR-I in 50-36 Defeat
Slow and methodical are two terms often associated with Brookfield boys basketball. In the fast paced Tri-Rivers Conference the Bulldogs style is a study in contrast.
That study worked to perfection on Tuesday night as Scotland County traveled south and the Tigers were lulled to sleep by the patient offensive game plan that allowed Brookfield to capture the 50-36 victory.
The home squad started in typical style, building an 11-6 advantage courtesy of suffocating defense and controlled offensive outbursts.
But SCR-I returned the favor in period two. Travis Trueblood hit a pair of shots as Scotland County went on a 10-2 run to pull ahead 16-13 at the intermission.
Cody Musgrove came to life in the third period. The Tigers leading scorer poured in eight points in the third period.
But Brookfield came out of the locker room a different team. The Bulldogs exploded for 21 points over the next eight minutes. Corey Bailey did the bulk of that damage, hitting three three pointers en route to 13 third period points. When the smoke cleared from the barrage, Brookfield found itself leading 34-26.
The game was decided at the free throw line. The two squads combined to shoot 23 free throws in the final eight minutes. Brookfield went eight of 12 from the charity stripe late to secure the 50-36 victory.
The loss dropped Scotland County to 8-13 and 2-4 in league play.
Musgrove finished with 16 points and Trueblood added eight to lead SCR-I.
