ROBERT ELLIS MATHEWS
Robert Ellis Mathews, 65, of Lancaster, MO, passed away unexpectedly at his home in rural Lancaster, MO on December 13, 2008.
The son of Louis Virgil and Nina Elizabeth (Speer) Mathews, he was born on June 12, 1943 in Stuttgart, AR.
Robert was a 1961 graduate of Downing High School in Downing, MO.
In 1962 he was united in marriage to Charlotte Moore and to this union two children were born, Cindy and Randy. He was later married to Janet Hamilton and to this union one son was born, Travis, and on March 17, 2000 he was united in marriage to Twila Anderson at the Schuyler County Courthouse in Lancaster, MO.
Survivors include his wife, Twila of Lancaster, MO; his children, Cindy Mathews of Columbia, MO and Randy Mathews and wife, Melisa of Harrisburg, MO, and Travis Mathews of Kansas City, MO; three step-children, Lorie VanGorp and husband, Mark of ElCampo, TX, Paige Munn of Kansas City, MO and Roy Anderson of Wilmington, NC; two grandchildren, Mickyla Mathews and Bobbi Mathews; four step-grandchildren, Michael and Matthew VanGorp and Jerin and Kaylyn Munn; two sisters, Barbara Filkins and husband, Richard of Marshall, MO and Rose Ellen Kerby of Colorado Springs, CO; one brother-in-law, Larry Aeschliman and wife, Brenda of Lancaster, MO; nieces; nephews; other family members and many good friends.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents.
Robert was a member of the Downing United Methodist Church of Downing, MO, but was attending the Downing Baptist Church at the time of his death. He was also a member of the Downing Lions and the Masonic Lodge in Downing, MO. Robert was a truck driver and also was engaged in farming. He was a very good neighbor and will be missed.
Funeral services were held on December 17, 2008 at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO with David Barton, pastor of the Downing Baptist Church officiating. Music was provided by pianist, Shyanne Barton and soloist, Cole Tippett. Pallbearers were Steve Blessing, Jim Groseclose, Jake Grose-close, Nick Aeschliman, Whit Aeschliman and Court Aeschliman. Honorary pallbearers were Ellis Speer, Robert Fugate, Ronnie Martin, Delbert Jones, Steve Holper, H. Middleton, and Theodore Peterson. Memorials have been established for the Downing Baptist Church Stained Glass Fund. Burial was in the Downing Cemetery in Downing. Arrangements were under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing.
