DOROTHY DALE MOHR
(2/16/1915 - 11/29/2008)



Dorothy Dale Mohr, 93, of Keosauqua, Iowa, formerly of Memphis, MO passed away Saturday evening, November 29, 2008, at the Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua, IA.

The daughter of Orville and Lolo Mathes McVey, she was born February 16, 1915 in rural Scotland County, MO. Dorothy attended Morning View School and graduated from Memphis High School in 1933.

She married Robert Wayne Mohr on April 21, 1935 and to this union two children were born. They lived and farmed near Arbela, MO and, after her husbands death, she moved to Memphis, MO.

She is survived by her daughter Freda C. (Gene) Bumgarner of Farmington, IA, and son, Alan W. (Joanne) Mohr of West Burlington, IA. Also surviving are two grandchildren, Joy and husband Jared Hudepohl of Blairstown, IA and Robert and wife Alison Mohr of Morning Sun, IA. There are six great-grandchildren, Colton Hudepohl and Wyatt, Elliott, Hallie, Chett and Charlotte Mohr.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters, Madge Bradley an Ruby Lea Powell.

Dorothy was very active in her community. She organized the United Workers 4-H Club and was the leader for 15 years, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Memphis Federated Womens Club, charter member of the Scotland Co. Farm Bureau, a 60-year member of the Educational Club, and served for many years on the Scotland Co. Extension Council. She volunteered in both the Arbela and Memphis Methodist churches holding local and state positions in U.M.W., was a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher as well as helping with Vacation Bible School. In addition, she was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing and doing needlework.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Nutrition Site or the Scotland County Memorial Library and can be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon December 2nd at the Memphis United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Hammack officiating. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery. Pallbearers were Donnie, Brian and Darrell Harvey, Larry Riney, Greg Shelley and Joe Fulk. Musicians were Joan Hinds, organist and Terry Lippstreu, soloist.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel in Memphis, MO.
