JOHN W. BUNCH

John W. Bunch, 73, passed away November 12, 2008 at his home in rural Scotland County, Missouri.
He was born December 16, 1934 at Sublette, Missouri in Adair County to Volley Edward and Ruby Lee Greenstreet Bunch.
He graduated from Brashear High School with the Class of 1953. He served with the United States Army from 1953 until 1956 and was stationed in Korea.
On June 21, 1959, he married Linda L. Gooden of Milton, Iowa, in the Presbyterian Church at Memphis, Missouri and to this union two children were born.
John was a respected and well-known contractor in the Iowa-Missouri area for over 45 years, having built many area homes and businesses. His final job, before his illness forced him into retirement, was construction of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Memphis, Missouri. John was very honored to have been given this opportunity. He took great pride in his craft with all of his projects, large and small. He was the General Contractor for the Memphis Community Theater, coordinating all aspects of the project. He also was instrumental in raising funds for the Antique Fair Association which enabled them to run the cement pad on the courthouse lawn which is used for the food stand during Antique Days and other events.
John was a member of the VFW Post 4958 of Memphis, Missouri.
John also farmed north of Memphis for many years and loved nature and the outdoors. He especially loved deer hunting with his son and daughter. In later years he enjoyed taking wildlife photos and just enjoying nature.
Most importantly, John enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, of rural Scotland County; a daughter, Lisa Davis and her husband, Ian, of Blue Springs, Missouri; a son, Alan Bunch of McPherson, Kansas; two granddaughters: Stephanie Bunch and Stephanie Davis and four grandsons: Christopher Bunch, Bobby Bunch, Alex Davis and Andre Davis. Other survivors include three brothers: C.W. Bunch and his wife, Ann, of Lancaster, Missouri; Ronald Keith Bunch and his wife, Virginia, of Sylacauga, Alabama; Kenneth Bunch and his wife, Linda, of Orlando, Florida; four sisters: Mary Tubbs of Marion, Ohio; Nancy Brewer of Sheridan, Arkansas, Karen Hunt and special fiend, Bob McClintock, of Stoutsville, Missouri, Patricia Kantzer of Marion, Ohio; a half sister, Ann Bass and her husband, Dick, of Brashear, Missouri and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Edward Bunch ; a half-brother, Randy Bunch and a half-sister, Bonnie Bunch.
Cremation rites were accorded per John's wishes with a memorial service being held on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at the Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, Missouri with The Honorable E. Richard Webber officiating the ceremony and Pastor Jerry Platz, nephew of John, assisting. Music was provided by Ann Luther, accompanist and vocalists, Joe and Lori Fulk.
Burial of cremains followed the service in Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton, Iowa with graveside military rites provided by the VFW Post 4958 of Memphis, Missouri. Terry Fincher, Jackie Goosey, Larry Creath, Robert Parrish, Max Bruner and Audrey Glass served as honorary bearers.
As an expression of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Scotland County Cancer Fund or Hospice of Northeast Missouri.
