John Henry Gottman, 89, formerly of Lancaster, MO, passed away at the Kirksville Manor Care Center in Kirksville, MO, on October 29, 2008 where he had been a resident since 2001.

The son of John Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Schmitter) Gottman, he was born on October 21, 1919, in rural Schuyler County, MO.

On February 22, 1942 he was united in marriage to Goldie Thersa Smith and to this union one child, a son, Robert Eugene was born. Goldie and John were farmers and made their home on the farm south of Lancaster, MO. On March 26, 1994, he was united in marriage to Geneive June Steen McKee.

John is survived by his two grandsons, Jeff Gottman and wife, Lacey of Greentop, MO and Scott Gottman and friend, Joscelyn Morlan of Centerville, IA; one daughter-in-law, Diana Bogle and husband, Tom of Bloomfield, IA; two step-grandchildren, Mike Bogle and wife, Teresa of Centerville, IA and Tiffany Bogle and friend, Jason Kauzlarich of Centerville, IA; six great-grandchildren, Tanner, Ty and Trace Gottman, Heidi, Haley and Hunter Gottman; three step-great-grandchildren, Nolan Bogle, Trenton Bogle and Emma Kauzlarich; nieces, nephews and other family members.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Goldie Gottman on January 18, 1993 and Geneive June Gottman on December 4, 1999; his son, Robert Eugene Gottman on November 29, 1970; three brothers, William Harold, Hadley and Leroy Gottman and two sisters, Freda Baker and Ruby Gottman.

John was employed as a mechanic for various businesses in the Lancaster, MO area, which included Morgan Oil Company, Beeler Motor Company and MFA Gas Station. He was also employed with the MFA Feed Mill.

John enjoyed being with people and always had a smile. His joy in life was being a husband, father, and grandfather and spending time with his family and friends.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, MO at 11:00 a.m. with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith officiating. Music was special taped selections of Amazing Grace and One Day At A Time. Pallbearers were Carl Gottman, Sam Gottman, Steve Gottman, Mike Gray, Ashley Bulechek and Vaughn Ruth. Memorials have been established for the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO and the St. Johns Lutheran Church. Burial was in the Arni Memorial Cemetery in Lancaster, MO. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster, MO.
