MERLE EDWIN EIFFERT
Merle Edwin Eiffert, 89, of Downing, MO, passed away at the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, MO, were he had been a resident since April 2008.
The son of Harry Heber and Jessie Beulah (Bradford) Eiffert, he was born on January 4, 1919 in rural Queen City, MO.
On June 4, 1965, he was united in marriage to EllaB Lehr Shepherd in Monmouth, IL.
Survivors include his wife, EllaB Eiffert of Downing, MO; three sons, Donald Eiffert and wife, Dorothy of Bowen, IL, Jerald Eiffert and wife, Donna of Carlinville, IL and James Eiffert and wife, Sandy of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three step-daughters, Donna Queen and husband, Donald of Canton, MO, Sheila Wheeler and husband, Terry of Downing, MO and Ruth Coutsougeras and husband, George of Greece; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Bernice Roberts and husband, Bob of Mission, TX; nieces; nephews and other family members.
Merle is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Boyd and Bernie Eiffert; two sisters, Ruth Martin and Marion Snowbarger and two grandsons, Bradley and Braxton Eiffert.
Merle attended the Downing Christian Church in Downing, MO.
Merle served with the United States Navy during World War II and was a member of the Schuyler County VFW.
Merle was an over the road semi truck driver and also worked on several farms as their assistant. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Funeral services were held on October 28, 2008 at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, MO with Larry Smith, pastor of the Downing Christian Church assisted by Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith of Lancaster, MO officiating. Music was taped selections of ďIn The GardenĒ, ďMansion Over The HilltopĒ and ďOne Day At A TimeĒ. Pallbearers were Troy Eiffert, Andy Eiffert, Skyler Wheeler, Wesley John Metz, Walter Joe Metz and William Queen. Honorary pallbearers will be Yanni Coutsougeras and Donald Lee Queen, Jr. Memorials have established for the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, MO. Burial was in the Downing City Cemetery in Downing, MO. Military Rites will be conducted by the Scotland County VFW Post #4958. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, MO.
