Carl Walter Wittstock, 85, of Arbela died Sunday morning, October 19, 2008, at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, MO.

He was born the son of Charles Henry and Emma (Arndt) Wittstock on June 18, 1923 at Emerald, WI.

Carl served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II.

He married the former Mary Elizabeth Judd on August 10, 1947 in Danville, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 24, 2000.

Carl was a member of the Lutheran Church and belonged to the American Legion.

Carl enjoyed gardening, playing and arguing with his grandchildren. He was fond of taking care of his chicken and geese. Most of all, Carl treasured the time he spent with his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; two sons, Lawrence and Dennis Bowling; five brothers, Fredrich, Herman, Henry, George, and Herbert; five sisters, Bertha, Martha, Clara, Anna, and Mayta; two grandchildren, Lisa Parker and Amber Tarpein.

He is survived by his son, Brad and wife Treva Wittstock of Arbela; his daughters, Sharon and husband John Parker of New London, Iowa, Carol Parrott of Danville, Iowa, Beverly and husband Gary Green and Tammy and husband Neil Heady, all of Panhandle, TX; a brother, Ernest and wife Mildred Wittstock of New Richmond, WI; 28 grandchildren and 61 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, October 23 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Memphis. Dr. Mark Appold, pastor at St. Paul, will officiate the service. Mr. Wittstockís grandsons, Carl and Craig Wittstock, Matt, Adam, Jerry, Dan and Joe Parrott, and Ben Tarpein, will serve as pall bearers. Ann Luther and Danielle Bair will perform The Old Rugged Cross. Graveside military rites will be performed by the Wallace W. Gillespie Memorial V.F.W. Post #4958 of Memphis. Burial will be in the Wittstock Family Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Scotland County Care Center and may be left at or mailed to: Gerth Funeral Service, 115 S. Main St., Memphis, MO 63555.
