JACK PRIEST BLESSING
Jack Priest Blessing, 71, of rural Memphis, MO passed away Thursday afternoon at the Iowa Lutheran Hospital, Des Moines, IA, following a brief illness. Jack was born on May 26, 1937, he was the second son to Jacob A. & Katherine Priest Blessing on the family farm west of Memphis. He graduated from the Memphis High School in 1955. He spent his entire life on a farm except for a brief time to serve in the Army Reserve in Texas as a medic. He farmed with his father and brothers.
Jack married Mary Ann Watts on June 10, 1966 at the farm home of his parents. To this union three children were born, Angie J., Jarrod Abraham and Amy Katherine.
Jack loved farming and devoted his life to that occupation. He was an accomplished mechanic and his favorite tractors were Minneapolis Moline. He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors and especially the mountains. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law.
Jack is survived by his wife Mary Ann of 42 years, Memphis, MO, two daughters; Angie Hawthorne of Belleville, Illinois, Amy Blessing of Memphis, MO, and one son Jarrod Blessing and wife Debbie of Memphis, MO; five grandchildren Nicholas and Danielle Hawthorne, Mazy Gray, Jacob and Aaron Blessing. Two brothers; Henry Blessing and wife Barbara of Memphis, MO, Phillip Blessing and wife Kathie of Kansas City, MO, nephews; Henry Blessing and wife Julie, Stewart Blessing and wife Waltedda and their families all of Memphis, MO, two nieces Alison Breckenridge and husband Robert of Kansas City, MO, Jennifer Huckfeldt and husband Roger of Ozark, MO, great-nephews and nieces, cousins, and many friends.
Memorials are suggested to the Downing Christian Church and they may be left at or mailed to the Payne Funeral Chapel, 202 E. Madison, Memphis, MO 63555.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Downing Christian Church in Downing, MO with Brother Larry Smith officiating. Musician was Betty Anderson. Pallbearers were Jim Brewer, Jerry Hocker, Vernon Carroll, Steve Swindler, Matthew Brewer and Rodney Newland. Honorary Pallbearers were Tom Carnes, Charles Green, Bill Ketchum, Junior Arnold, Aaron Brewer and E. Richard Webber. Interment was in the Dover Cemetery, rural Scotland County, MO.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Payne Funeral Chapel of Memphis.
