Elaine Lay, 87, of Memphis, Missouri passed away Thursday, July 10, 2008 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis.
The daughter of Earnest and Armeda Gates Wilson, Elaine was born February 23, 1921 at rural Greentop, Missouri. She grew up southeast of Greentop and attended Adair County Schools.
Elaine married Wesley Lay February 11, 1944. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2008. Elaine and Wesley farmed in the Hitt Community in Scotland County northwest of Memphis until December of 1979 when they sold their farm and moved to Memphis.
She was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was an immaculate housekeeper and wonderful cook.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and three brothers, Roland Wilson and his wife Mildred, James Wilson and his wife Lorina and Layton Wilson and his wife Delma.
Surviving relatives include one sister, Evelyn Bragg of Kirksville, MO, three brothers, Robert Wilson and his wife Carol of Brashear, MO, Vernell Wilson and his wife Henrietta of Kirksville, MO and Raymond Wilson and his wife Joyce of Santa Rosa, California, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, July 13, 2008 at the Payne Funeral Chapel, Memphis, MO with Rev. Charles McCracken officiating. Pallbearers were Mike Slaughter, Steve Caldwell, Brian Briggs, George Koontz, Frank Reed and Roy Monroe. Interment was in the Ft. Madison Cemetery, Adair County, MO.
