DOROTHY EVELYN SCOTT HANNUM
(9/19/1932-6/16/2008)



Memorial services of Dorothy Hannum were held July 12, 2008 at the First Presbyterian Church, LeClaire, IA. She died June 16, 2008, at the Trinity Pathway Hospice House in Davenport, IA.

Dorothy Evelyn Scott was born September 19, 1932 in Knox County, MO to Frank Eldon and Myrtle (Alderton) Scott.

She attended Kirksville Teachers College, majoring in art and PE. She began her 55 year marriage to Jack Hannum in 1953. The Hannums moved to LeClaire, IA in 1958, where Dr. Hannum practiced family medicine until 1985. Mrs. Hannum and her husband moved to Ft. Worth, TX in 1985, and retired to Bella Vista, AR in 1990.

Dorothy was a woman of many talents and interests, which included playing basketball in high school. She remained physically active as an adult, learning to belly dance, and teaching aerobics, Yoga and Jazzercise. Dorothy completed her art degree at Marycrest College in Davenport, IA, while raising her three children, Gwynne, Jennifer, and Jeffery. She will be remembered by the women in the Girl Scout troop from LeClaire, where she was their leader from 1962 until 1972.

Dorothy was an active church member in the Presbyterian Churches of LeClaire, Ft. Worth, and Bella Vista, teaching Sunday School, and serving as a deacon. Dorothy designed her homes in LeClaire and Bella Vista, and continued to create art in mediums of water color, oil painting, sculpture, and natural element collage until she succumbed to end-stage dementia in recent years. She also became a certified massage therapist, starting a private practice after moving to Arkansas. Dorothy will be remembered by many friends and family as creative and young at heart.

She is survived by her husband, Dr. Jack Hannum; daughter, Gwynne Hannum; son-in-law, Tim Clayton; daughter, Jennifer Ericksen; son-in-law, Jim Ericksen; son, Jeffery Hannum and daughter-in-law, Debbie Hannum; sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Alvin Howard; sister-in-law, Jane Maggert; grandchildren, Jesse Bradshaw, Patrick Clayton, Ty Ericksen, Zack Ericksen, and Jordan Ericksen; great-grandchildren, Emory, Sadie and Erneka Erickson; and nephews, Brian and Neil Howard.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Franke George ďSonnyĒ, who died as a toddler.

Memorial donations may be made in Dorothyís name to the Alzheimerís Association.
