BETTY JOAN ALEXANDER

Betty Joan Alexander, 83, of Burlington, died March 7, 2008, at the Danville Care Center.
Born Thursday, June 12, 1924, in Nehawka, NE, she was the daughter of Millard Henry and Flossie Pfeiff Odell and Goldie Muir Phillips. On May 26, 1944, she married William R. Alexander in Memphis, MO. He died Friday, April 18, 1997.
Betty had worked at J&R Clothing, IRC, and Seither-Cherry
In 1942, she graduated as salutatorian from Memphis High School in Memphis, MO.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She grew up in the Memphis, MO area, lived in Kansas City for a short while, and moved to Burlington in 1947. She was an excellent seamstress, loved bingo, gardening, crocheting, her hummingbirds, and playing games with family.
Survivors include one daughter, Connee (Tom) Stevens of Burlington; one son, John (Vonnie) Alexander of Danville; six grandchildren, Bill (Pat) Stevens, Mark Stevens, Lisa (Don Bleim) Dudycha, Aimee Stevens, Dusty (Terry) Farren, and Julie Barton; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Ariel, Darian, Nicole, Alexis, Christofer, and Taylor; one sister, Noma Sullivan of Santa Monica, CA; and 10 nieces and nephews.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, and three sisters.
The funeral service for Mrs. Alexander was held March 10, 2008, at the Chapel of the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home with Reverend Debra L. Miller officiating. As per the request of Mrs. Alexander, her body will be cremated after the funeral. Inurnment will be in Jaggar Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials have been established for the Battered Women’s Shelter and the Church Scholarship Fund.
