Marion Jenkins, 81, of Loraine, IL, passed away at 2:25 a.m. Sunday, January 13, 2008 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
He was born on August 13, 1926 in Loraine, IL, the son of the late Arthur and Myra (McBride) Jenkins. He married Fonda Schwartz on June 1, 1946 in Mt. Sterling, IL, and she preceded him in death on October 18, 1991.
Marion enlisted in the US Navy, during WW II and served his enlistment as an underwater demolitions technician with the US Marine Corps and was discharged from the Navy on August 3, 1945. For his service he received three purple hearts and 2 bronze stars. He was the chief engineer for the Illinois Veteran’s Home for 32 years. For 10 years, he was an electrician for the Adams County Mental Health in Quincy, IL.
He was a member of the Loraine Christian Church. He was first a member of the Loraine Masonic Lodge before transferring his membership to the Lima Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. He served as past master and a state lecturer.
Surviving are one son Chuck Jenkins and wife Valerie of Loraine, IL, three grandchildren from his son Harry F. “Butch” Jenkins, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews including Jerry Jenkins of Loraine, IL, and Sharon Moore of Memphis, MO.
He was preceded in death by a son Harry F. “Butch” Jenkins and a brother Clyde Jenkins.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 17, 2008 at the Woodville Cemetery in Stillwell, IL, with Rev. Oliver Taube officiating with military rites by Bear Creek American Legion.
