Santa’s Helpers Bringing Christmas to Local Families
The Santa’s Helper Program is up and going again for the Christmas Season in Scotland County. The Christmas season is to be a joyous time for people of all ages. Unfortunately, there are families in our own community that may be struggling during this time. The purpose of Santa’s Helpers is to ensure there is a gift or two under the tree come Christmas morning for children living in Scotland County.
There are other groups that offer similar services, such as Toys for Tots, etc. and we are asking that everyone please be considerate and only utilize one of these services. Please remember that this program is not to replace what a family can do, it is to help with what they can’t do.
A perfect example of how this program was designed, was a few years ago when a single mother, who had just been laid off, signed her two children up for the “Adopt a Child” program. The following year she gave a monetary donation back to the program to show her appreciation for the previous year.
Families in need can sign up their child(ren) and participate in the “Adopt a Child” for the Holidays. Santa’s Helpers is available to children ages newborn to 17 years of age. Special circumstances will be considered for those over 17 years old. Please contact Michele prior to signing up children over 17 years old by calling 660-216-6226 and leave your name, number and a brief message.
Sign-up sheets are available now through December 3rd at the Scotland County Sheriff’s Office and Pamida in Memphis and Memphis City Hall. Sheets must be turned back into one of those locations by Friday, December 5th.
Once names are received they are placed on the “Adopt a Child” tree at Pamida in Memphis. Here people can adopt one or more of these children and purchase items on their wish list.
Once you select a child from the tree, please remember to fill out the bottom portion of the card and place it in the container located under the tree. The rest of the card needs to be attached to your purchase. Gifts can be returned to Pamida in Memphis or dropped off during business hours at City Hall. Gifts are not to be wrapped.
They don’t want to take a chance that a family needs to add their child(ren) at the last minute because of a family emergency or that there are names left on the tree. Santa’s Helpers are here to lend a helping hand with your help and support. They don’t want any child to go without, therefore, monetary donations can be left at Bank of Memphis a branch of Bank of Kirksville in Memphis and it will be deposited directly in the Santa’s Helpers account.
They try to make sure that each child has at least one of the items on their wish list and also clothing which can consist of a shirt, pants, socks, etc.
The “Adopt a Child” volunteers will finish any last minute shopping that is needed in the last few days prior to Christmas. The shopping is only made possible with the continued support of people like you. Rather you adopt a child from the tree or give a monetary donation your generosity is greatly appreciated.
They hope they can count on your support. Santa’s Helpers would like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Gifts will be delivered on Monday, December 22, 2008. For more infor contact Michele Drummond at 660-216-6226, leave a message.
