Chamber to Host Holiday Activities

The Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce is once again ready to sponsor some fun holiday activities with the holiday season just around the corner.

The chamber will kick off the holiday season on Friday, November 28th with a 4:00 p.m. soup supper at the Scotland County Antique Fair building.

At 5:00 p.m. the public is invited to gather on the square for the lighting of many decorations that will adorn the square and surrounding area. Santa Claus will be there for a special in-person visit. Holiday revelers will also have the opportunity to register to win $250.00 worth of Memphis Bucks with the chamber awarding ten $10.00 gift certificates, one $50.00 gift certificate, and one $100.00 gift certificate in Memphis Bucks that night!

Shoppers are asked to check out all the bargains available at area merchants during the holidays.

The Chamber and the Memphis Community Players will also host matinee movies on December 6th, 13th, and 20th at 1:30 p.m. at the Memphis Theatre. Admission for the movies will be a non-perishable food item. Santa Day will be on December 20th with Santa arriving on the fire truck after the movie. Firemen from the Memphis and Scotland County Fire Departments will be giving fire truck rides for the kids and Santa will be greeting kids at the Memphis VFW where he’ll be handing on treats from the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce and Wallace W. Gillespie V.F.W. Post #4958.

The Chamber is also once again sponsoring a business and residential decorating contest. If you’d like to get your home or business all decked out for 2008 and enter yourself, or neighbors, in the contest, entries will be taken at the Memphis Democrat. Judging will be done December 19th, first place will receive $80.00 in Memphis Bucks, second prize will be $50.00 in Memphis Bucks, and $30.00 in Memphis Bucks will go to the third prize winner.

This year shoppers around the square will also have the opportunity to enjoy the sounds of the holiday season as the chamber sponsors holiday music beginning Friday, November 28th with music celebrating the season courtesy of Po-Lo sound.
