Julia McNabb, D.O. Joins Staff at Memphis Medical Services

With parents who are science teachers, both hailing from northeast Missouri, it just seemed like a natural transition for Julia McNabb, D.O. to find her way to Memphis Medical Services.

McNabb joined the staff at the local healthcare provider, returning to Memphis, where her mother grew up.

“She grew up in the Downing House, and went on to teach in Memphis before she married dad and moved to Schuyler County,” said Julia.

The doctor traces her connection to the region back to her mom, Virginia Keethler, as well as her grandparents.

But the association also includes the teaching background.

Julia said the medical field was a natural progression for her considering her parents’ science background.

Not only did she become a doctor, but Julia also is an educator.

After growing up in the Greentop/Queen City area, she graduated from Schuyler County High School. She went on to Truman State University (then Northeast Missouri State University) before attending medical school at KCOM in Kirksville (now AT Still). After school she completed her residency at Toledo Hospital in Toledo, OH.

That is when McNabb got her first call to come back home. KCOM contacted her regarding an opening at the school. Not only would she be practicing medicine, but she was also teaching classes at the medical school.

“I spent half my time seeing patients and the other half as an administrator and instructor at the school,” she said.

Recently she had been feeling the desire to dedicate herself full time to work with patients. That is when she got her second call to come back home.

She had been talking with Dr. Robert Jackson about Memphis Medical Services. Shortly after those conversations she was contacted by Scotland County Memorial Hospital CEO Marcia Dial about an opening at the clinic, and thus she returned home again.

McNabb saw her first patients at MMS on August 12th. She will be hosting clinic hours on Tuesday and Wednesday in Memphis. For more information contact the clinic at 465-2828.
