Peanut Day to Raise Money For City Sign
Cracker Jacks were made famous by the lure of a prize in every box. Those silly little rewards spurred the sale of one of America’s most favorite snacks, so it is no surprise that the Memphis Area Chamber of Commerce has one of its most successful fundraisers on Peanut Day.
The special event boasts a prize in every bag, enticing buyers with the lure of such loot as a $50 savings bond, dollar coins, movie passes, food coupons, free swimming passes and discount coupons plus all kinds of other prizes.
Chamber representatives will be on all four corners of the square beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14th. The sales will go on until noon or until the group sells all 2,000 bags.
This years event has a special emphasis as Chamber president Chuck Kigar indicated the proceeds will be used to help fund a new welcome to Memphis sign that is being planned for construction at the junction of highways 136 and 15 in town.
