SCR-I Facing 17% Price Hike For Insurance Benefits
Faced with rising health insurance costs, the Scotland County R-I School Board will meet with representatives from the NEMO Coop’s insurance providers to review its options.
The Scotland County R-I Board of Education learned of the planned 17% price hike for the district to maintain its current coverage during the May 8th board meeting.
The district negotiates rates as part of a cooperative of northeast Missouri schools in an effort to insure the best coverage and prices.
Superintendent Dave Shalley informed the board that the cost for the district’s current health insurance would rise from $398.61 per employee per month, to $469.03 for the next fiscal year.
The NEMO Coop has been presented with a number of alternatives to try to control the rising costs, including raising the employee policy’s deductible or offering a health savings account in lieu of a portion of the coverage or deductible difference.
Representatives of the insurance company will meet with board members and the insured employees at a special meeting May 20th at 9:00 a.m. at the school to discuss the options.
