Three Candidates Seek Vacated Alderman Job
The April 8th municipal election in Memphis filled the mayor vacancy but created another job opening on the city council.
The council moved one step closer to naming a new east ward alderman during the May 1st meeting.
Three candidates officially declared interest in the position with a letter to the city. Lucas Remley, Troy Alexander and Robert Parrish submitted letters prior to the April 25th deadline declaring their desire to be appointed to the remaining one-year term of east ward alderman William Reckenberg, who was elected as Memphis mayor in April.
The council tabled the issue, and a special meeting was scheduled for May 21st at 6:00 p.m. to discuss making an appointment. Under the city code, the mayor makes a recommendation for the appointment, but the council ultimately decides the issue with a vote in open session.
